Beth is a Board Certified Music Therapist and a Neurologic Music Therapist (NMT) with over 15 years experience specializing in working with persons with autism, neurologic impairments, and developmental disabilities including deaf and hard of hearing, emotional/behavioral disorders, speech and language impairments, traumatic brain injury and severely multiply impaired.

Training

  • 1993 B.A. in Music Education from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota
  • 1997 M.A. in Music Therapy from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis
  • 2005 Advanced Level Fellowship Training at the Unkefer Academy of Neurologic Music Therapy from the Center for Biomedical Research in Music at Colorado State University
  • 2008 Facilitated Communication training at the Institute on Communication and Inclusion at Syracuse University in Syracuse, NY

Experience

  • Music Therapist in the elementary special education programs for the Saint Paul Public School System for 7 years. Conducted group music therapy sessions for special education classrooms.
  • Music Therapist in the elementary special education programs for the Minneapolis Public School System for 4 years. Assessed, established and carried out music therapy treatment goals on Individual Education Plans (IEP)
  • Music Therapist at Rondo Early Childhood Special Education program for 4 years. Conducted group music therapy sessions for eight early childhood special education classrooms.
  • Music Therapist at Wheelock Parkway Early Childhood Special Education program in Saint Paul Public Schools to fulfill a multi-cultural grant. Conducted group music therapy sessions for eight early childhood special education classrooms with an emphasis on multi-cultural music.
  • Music Therapist for Growing With Music, Inc. Conducted group music sessions in daycare centers for infants, toddlers and preschoolers.
  • Currently, serves as the music specialist for Children’s Discovery Academy of Early Learning. Leads group music sessions for toddlers, preschoolers and pre-k children.
  • Presenter on various music therapy related topics to school district personnel, clinicians, physicians, parent groups as well as at state, national and international conferences over the past 16 years.
